TOMATO

You say TOMATO, I say TOMATO. We all say tomato and we know what we means: "tomato" - the only fruit to take its right and prideful place on the plate of a breakfast.

It provides a tart supplement of Vitamin C and sex appeal to a meal otherwise devoid of it. The tomato is native to South America so how it got here God only knows, perhaps an Aztec man brought it over in a bag.

The tomato needs cooking to be allowed to nestle in amongst the eggs and bacon, and a hard frying or broiling (Americans for grilling) should do the trick, after you've halved it roundwise with a knife.

A small amount of sugar sprinkled on its cut side will see it caramelise, which is nice for you and for us all.

She says "TOMATO". Do you?

Whereas in America it's very much the fashion to "do breakfast", here in Britain we prefer to eat it.
